Full-Time Employment Opportunity: Public Works Foreman

Position Overview

The Village of Veteran is seeking a self-motivated, full-time Public Works Foreman to join our dedicated team. This position requires a commitment of at least 40 hours per week.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee the Village’s water and wastewater facilities.
  • Maintain streets, sidewalks, public buildings, parks, the arena and the campground.
  • Daily checks of furnaces (pumphouse, water plant, firehall & municipal shop and water pumps.) and daily checks of hall furnaces, fridges and freezers.
  • Perform weekly garbage collection for the Village.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on municipal equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure snow and ice control during winter months, including operating equipment such as skid steers.
  • Ensure grass and weed control during summer months.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 (or equivalent) education.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Driver’s Abstract required before employment).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Small Systems Water & Wastewater Certificate; however, training can be provided for the right applicant.
  • Proven experience operating equipment (e.g., skid steer) and performing snow and ice control maintenance in the winter and grass and weed control in the summer months.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, motivated, hard-working, physically fit to perform the required duties, and trustworthy.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Wages will be based on experience.
  • A comprehensive health benefit package will be available after a probationary period.

The recycle bin has now been changed to 2 separate recycle bins.  One for mixed paper only & one for cardboard only.  Please separate them.

Please be advised that the Village of Veteran no longer uses 911 Wainwright.  Effectively immediately, the Village of Veteran is now with 911 Red Deer.  Please advise your individual security companies as soon as possible of this change, if applicable.

If your garbage is to heavy for you to pick up , then it is  too heavy for our summer staff
to pick up.  Be considerate.  If it is too heavy, it will NOT be picked up.
